“The best colour in the world is the one that looks good on you” Coco Chanel

Discovering my colours was a transformational experience. I can remember when my mum came back from her having her colours done many years ago and being bemused by her resolution to throw out all the black – including her black mascara! I admit, I was sceptical. I had never looked at my mum and thought she had made poor choices in clothes and colours so I couldn’t understand her new plight. But, over time, I was absolutely convinced.

Slowly but surely she built a wardrobe of all her best colours which utterly transformed her image. She became effortlessly stylish, had a fabulous wardrobe where everything complemented each other and looked stunning on her. And my dad swore that shopping with her became a breeze – no more endless hours of trying things on and looking at every item in every shop twice; she would head in and scan for her colours, discarding everything else.

A few years later I was treated to the colour and style consultation myself as a gift for my 30th birthday and it cemented my absolute belief and passion for how valuable the experience is. Like my mum, I considered myself a good judge of clothes and style; I liked to think I dressed well most of the time. Yet, I still had a wardrobe full of clothes that I barely wore, that didn’t match much else in the wardrobe and that I would only wear if I was sporting a spray tan.

The experience helped me to de-clutter, rebuild my wardrobe full of clothes that work for me (and with each other) and achieve value for money from my clothes. It taught me which were my best colours, how to complement the look with my make-up and use highlighting colours to accessorise and build the full look. Initially concerned at being restricted with my shopping, I now understand first hand that it’s not that I am being restricted but that I am being guided by a personalised framework that helps me to make choices about what to buy and, just as importantly, what not to buy. It has saved me a fortune. The colour experience is a one time investment that has and will continue to shape my shopping and dressing for life. It is the gift that keeps on giving!

DSC_1134It is from this that I decided to train as an Image Consultant with Colour Me Beautiful to bring this experience to others to share in their colour and style journeys. I have two residential studios in the North West; one in Royton, Oldham, the other in Altrincham; I offer my services from these locations as well as mobile.
